How to Correctly and Safely Throw an Axe.

Axe throwing is not just about hurling a sharp object at a target; it’s a skill that requires technique and focus. Everyone develops their own style and our staff are there specifically to help you throw in any way that suits your style.

However, throwing an axe is simply a game of physics, so in general you should follow these steps to master the art of axe throwing:

A Two Handed Throw:

A two handed throw is the first thing we’ll teach you and is the most fundamental throw there is.

Grip: Begin by gripping the axe firmly with your dominant hand. Place your non-dominant hand on the handle either slightly above your dominant hand, or on top of your dominant hand for stability.

Stance: Position yourself approximately 12-15 feet from the target, with your feet staggered about a foot. Keep your body squared up to the target, with your shoulders parallel to the throwing line.

Aim: Focus your gaze on the bullseye or target area. Most importantly, don’t overthink it. The throw should be one fluid motion.

Wind-up: With a smooth motion, bring the axe above your head, keeping your arms mostly extended. Avoid overextending or forcefully jerking your arm.

Momentum: Rock back and forth on your feet while maintaining your posture.

Release: As you rock forward, swing the axe forward, and release it at eye level. Ensure when you release, you do not flick your wrist. The axe will do all of the rotating for you, simply let go of the axe. Aim to release the axe when your arm is fully extended, following through with your motion.

Follow-through: When you release the axe, ensure your hands keep following through and end up at your sides. This is to ensure your hands get out of the way and do not affect the rotation of the axe.

Adjustments: Maintain your stance and observe how the axe lands. Adjust your aim and technique as needed for subsequent throws.

By practicing these steps consistently and focusing on proper form, you’ll soon find yourself hitting the bullseye with precision and confidence.
